S+T+ARTS Prize Honorary Mention
We are glad to announce that in September 2021, our Living Light design lamp received the prestigious S+T+ARTS prize honorary mention!
The Science+Technology+Arts = STARTS Prize is a program of the European Commission that encourages synergies between the arts and technology that support the innovation industry and society.
This year, Living Light received one of the ten honorary mentions given by the international jury. At the same time, we exhibited the Living Light during the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz (Austria), which is a prestigious festival for art, technology and society.
June 2020 - Milestone
Living Light Launch
A huge milestone in our journey: on the 24th of June the very first 10 lamps in the world, working of plant power, were virtually launched and resulted in a magical light symphony. The day after the launch, the Nova Innova team personally delivered them to their new owners. These ten Living Lights are now lighting up their new homes.

Fieldtrip Enusual
We were honoured that the first field trip of Enusual was located at ‘Het Park van Morgen’ in Rotterdam. It was a magical walk through the park with its sparkling lights and amazing ideas were shared about a sustainable future. Watch the video from Enusual to experience the fieldtrip yourself!
November 2019 - Milestone
'The Park of Tomorrow' is opened
Rotterdam is the first city worldwide to realize a park with interactive lighting powered by plants. The green area is located in Reyeroord. ‘The Park of Tomorrow’ had its celebratory opening on the 18th of November and was opened by the councilor of outdoor spaces, integration and society, Bert Wijbenga. The self-sustaining park is a means for the municipality Rotterdam, Plant-e and Nova Innova to stimulate the use of more greenery in urban areas and to create a stronger connection between people and their surroundings.
May 2019 – TV program
Living Light in "Het Klokhuis"
A dream came true! This month, "Het Klokhuis" made an episode about energy from plants – including us! We can't believe that we are part of this popular Dutch tv program for children that we used to watch when we were young.
March 2019 – Winner
Clean Energy Challenge
Organized by What Design Can Do and the IKEA Foundation, this challenge called on start-ups, designers and students to rethink the energy production of five big cities all over the world. On 6th March, an international jury announced the 20 winners out of 452 submissions – we are very honoured to be one of them!

Living Light at Pakhuis de Zwijger
This session of 'Design Matters' at Pakhuis de Zwijger was all about 'Design from the lab'. Together with other experts we elaborated on the cooperation of artists and scientists and the opportunities for a greener future. What an inspirational evening!
January 2019 – Traveling east
At the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week
This month, we took our Living Light to Abu Dhabi to participate in the Sustainability Week 2019. What an inspiring event it has been, we spoke to people from all over the world about sustainability, the power of plants and our vision of a green future. Our sustainable efforts also got rewarded with the CLIX award during the conference.
December 2018 – Park update
The magic on a small scale
For those who cannot wait to see the magical park powered by electricity-generating plants we designed planters together with Royal Flora Holland and the municipality of Rotterdam where you can experience it on a small scale. We will tell you soon where you can find them!
November 2018 – Research update
Promising results
Together with Plant-e we did a lot of tests concerning the biological system and the electronics of the Living Light. We've improved the energy stabilisation and harvesting and we are currently testing a new range of plants for the Living Light. We expect to finish these last adjustments in the beginning of 2019 so that we can go into production afterwards!
November 2018 – TV program
Living Light in 'Voor de vorm'
The Dutch TV programme 'Voor de vorm' (NTR) explores the ins and outs of different objects from our everyday life. One episode is all about indoor plants and it features our Living Light as an example of combining nature with design and science.

From a lamp to a park
It's official! The first fairytale park will become reality in Rotterdam. In cooperation with Ermi van Oers, her team and Plant-e, the city of Rotterdam will develop an interactive park with electricity-generating plants that react to the presence of people in the park. Little plant-powered lights will sparkle whenever you pass by!
November 2017 – Spreading the word
TEDx Amsterdam
We were invited as one of the speakers during the TEDx Amsterdam 2017 event. Ermi van Oers introduced the Living Light and took the audience on a magical journey through nature, design and science.

Living Light in 'De Toekomstbouwers'
On the Dutch TV show ‘De Toekomstbouwers’ (VPRO), Ermi van Oers elaborated on the current activities and future plans of Living Light. She also spoke about the importance of merging several sustainable systems: like a house where your plants and your urine are power sources.

Finalist Dutch Design Awards 2017
Living Light is more than a new energy source. We want to inspire others to collaborate with scientists and to explore the possibilities of building balanced systems with nature. We presented our idea at the Dutch Design Week, where we became one of the finalists in the Dutch Design Awards.

Royal visit at Plant-e
We got the unique chance to present our Living Light to Queen Máxima. She visited Plant-e in Wageningen and got to know the technique of generating electricity through living plants. We feel very honoured about this encounter.
